How to install our ceramic wall art tile

Wall tiles can be mounted using a multidirectional hanging system which adheres to the back of the tile. Security fasteners can be affixed to this mounting system for public installations.  Once installed, the tile profile (distance from the wall) is about one inch.

Here are step by step instructions on hanging unalun tiles:

1) Drill hole. This image shows an outdoor application with a stucco wall.

2) Tap in your molly bolt or sheetrock fastener of choice. There are different products for different types of wall thickness and material.

3) This image shows a bit of silicone for a better seal to the stucco wall.

4) Drill your sheetrock screw or masonry screw directly through the center of the disk. The wide diameter face of the disk should be closest to you, while the smaller diameter face of the disk should  snug up to the wall. You are creating a 45 degree cleat for the  congruent ledge of the tile backing to sit in.

Now you are ready to place the tile on the disk. Line up the tile and move it around slightly in a circular manner until it plunks down onto the disk. Before you let go, give it a tug, and make sure it is really on the disk!!!
If you should find it to be a slight bit off in any direction, take note of which way you want to adjust the disk, remove the tile and see next step.

5) Remove the tile and set it aside. Back the screw out just enough to be able to move the disk. Be gentle so that you don’t disrupt the good hold you have in the sheetrock, plaster or masonry. Swivel the disk up to the slot part of the cut in the center of the disk. Now you can adjust it back and forth in any of 360 degrees you need to—up down, back, forth, left, right until you adjust it to where you want it! Ingenious! That’s my husband!  Patent pending!!


6)  Usually we recommend about a 1″ separation between 12″ tiles, and 1.25″ or 1.5″ for 14″ tiles.  If your piece is contiguous, the closer the better. This means you want to hang all the disks first, and then start placing them on the wall from the bottom row up, so as to have enough room to lift the tiles onto their disks.

7) For public installations, we are working on a mechanized security fastener. For now, we use a dab of silicone on the top of the disk before sliding the tile into place. This can be removed later if the piece needs be moved, but will hold the piece firmly on the wall against theft or tremor.

Tiles can also be grouted in place for permanent installation.
